Well, it definitely feels like a first game. Which isn't a bad thing, you're still new to this. It would be weird if this was fantastic.

Not sure if this is caused by my old laptop, but it would often not register my clicking. To the point where I wasn't sure if I had to click in time with the music, or if there was a cooldown if I clicked often.

Another thing is that it was hard to tell if I was doing something right or wrong. There's not enough visual or audio tells that tell me if something is damaging me, or if I'm doing damage to that plant. I can tell you want to have minimal sound design, but you still need something to clue in the player. Doesn't have to be a harsh grunt or scream, I've seen games where all they use is a piano for everything.

Overall, you still have a long journey ahead of you if you want to get better at this. One suggestion I have that could help you is to look at your favourite games, and study what makes them feel good to you. What they do right, what they do wrong, what makes their controls flow, and what about these games feels special to you.

Looking at game design tutorials helps too, but don't over rely on them because it can ruin some of your creativity. Instead use them when you really need help with something.

That's all I have to say. Good luck with your next project if you decide to continue.

Tyhond responds:

I think click not registering might be your laptop because other people was pretty fine.

Ah, makes sense, I get it :>

I kinda made this for fun xD Thank you

There's a part of me that really wants to love this game, but needing to constantly hold the top left or top right of the screen while doing tight platforming with WASD + space ain't gelling with me.

Something about the movement also feels way too sensitive for what feels at times like single-tile precision platforming. Often times I was massively overshooting a platform after a wall-jump and hitting a spike trap. Although, it could be because I'm not used to playing a platformer with with just my left hand on my keyboard.

All and all. Most of my issues would be fixed if the camera followed the character as they moved around the stage, and when the player stops they could then adjust the frame to capture the picture.

ScolonDev responds:

Thanks for the feedback! We'll take a look at it

Oh fuck! I passed-out and woke-up in 2003!

Sucks that Ruffle has a few problems with flash files on Linux. I'm pretty sure I got all the achievements, but none of them got unlocked (plus they all have garbled text).

Pretty fun experience! Wish there was more, but what's there is really good.

Kolumbo responds:

the garbled text thing happens to me too, on w11 - but they are functional at least. sorry to hear they aren't for you

thanks for the review!!!!

Good gameplay loop, but there's just nothing there. Tried seeing if something would happen after killing a certain amount, but I gave-up after killing 500 chickens.

You've got something here, it just needs some sort of goal and fail state to make it more enjoyable.

delesgames responds:

woah, you made it to 500 chickens ? i'm working on a boss but the pixel art for every frame of it takes forever. i will update the game when it's done. thank you for taking the time to comment and for your feedback

I like the animations the art, and the music, but the game doesn't feel all that good. The super narrow platforms, and the lack of an areal attack makes it too easy to accidentally fly off the cars or go off screen.

JalenBrah responds:

Thanks for the critique! When I was initially planning an aerial attack but I didn’t have that time on my side. When I update the game in the future, I’ll try to make it so you can’t go past the border and a different input activates the pouch dash.

Gonna have to deduct a point because there was no jumscares in this game.

SomeApe responds:

YOU'RE THE JUMPSCARE

The game doesn't seem to play on Linux, even with Ruffle enabled. Kinda wish the Newgrounds player was available on Linux.

OreoScarFire responds:

yea :(, it sucks n I understand ur pain cuz I had a chromebook once n damn it sucked when it came to newgrounds games

Dungeonation responds:

NG Player is pretty much a temporary solution now as Ruffle is being developed so I feel your pain. This game just uses buttons and such though so it should be supported relatively early as AS3 support development gains traction

Really great game! The difficulty curve is a little harsh (1st level is piss easy, second level is balls hard), but overall still a fun time. I also just love how the tankmen just beat the shit out of everyone instead of using guns.

Fun fact: for the hell of it I decided to use my childhood Core2 Duo PC (now running Arch Linux as a way to do quick browsing and other things) to run this game, and apart from the slowdown from the amount of object on screen it's surprisingly playable. This Ruffle project sure is something I tell ya.

BoMToons responds:

We did a lot of optimizing too :-)

I do incredible things that look normal to everyone else.
